Secunia
I just heard about this program on Steve Gibson’s pod cast Security Now. I ran it and it told me a whole bunch of programs should be updated. Along the way it suggested that I should upgrade some of my Office 2000 components through Windows Update, which suggested I upgrade my Windows Update. I have automatic updates turned on, why didn’t Windows Update get updated? Any way, that lead me to the update for XP SP3. I’m not sure I want to do that just yet, so I avoided it.
After chasing updates for a while, Secunia seems to be one of those programs that will never by happy, but it is good to know, and make informed decisions about what it tells you.
